Important Update for all new and existing trainers

TAELLN401A

There has been growing awareness that people need to develop their Language Literacy and Numeracy skills not just at school but across their whole life. There have been significant changes within the TAE10 training package to provide trainers with relevant knowledge and skills required to address the learners LLN skills within the VET experience.

In July 2014 the current unit TAELLN401A Address Adult Language Literacy and Numeracy skills will become a core unit in the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

What is the TAELLN401A unit?

The unit of competency TAELLN401A Address Adult Language Literacy and Numeracy Skills describes the knowledge and skills required to understand LLN issues within training and assessment practice. The unit specifically describes the skills and knowledge that you need to:

1. Determine the core LLN requirements of the training.
2. Access specialist LLN support.
3. Customise training to support the development of core LLN skills.

Competency in this unit does not indicate specialist LLN practitioner skills. The unit is about being aware of the balance between the LLN demands of the training environment, LLN requirements of the training program and the LLN skills of the learner.

What does this mean for VET trainers and assessors?

As a trainer / assessor in the VET sector you must hold as a minimum, the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 training package or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency. If you have already achieved the unit TAELLN401A, then you already meet the new requirements of all qualified trainers and assessors.

If you are an existing qualified trainer and assessor, you are required to upgrade your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualifications to include the new unit TAELLN401A Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills.

You must achieve this before July 2014.

Please read the attached document, Changes ahead for Trainers and Assessors released from IBSA for in-depth information about this unit.
