Gently assist the patient into the most comfortable position, normally on their back with head and shoulders raised and supported by a pillow with knees slightly bent (to prevent the wound from gaping open).Lightly cover any protruding organs with a large, preferably sterile non-adherentdressing, a sheet, plastic food wrap or aluminium foil.Call Ambulance 000.Loosen any tight or restrictive clothing around the waist, chest and neck. Reassure and keep the patient warm. Closely monitor patient for response, airway, normal breathing while waiting for Ambulance.Unconscious PatientApply DRSABCD.Call Ambulance 000.Ensure the patient is placed into the recovery position taking care to support the abdomen. Apply same care and management principles as for conscious patient.Closely monitor patient for response, airway, normal breathing while waiting for Ambulance.
