With the airway open, pinch soft part of nose with your finger and thumb or seal the nose with your cheek.Maintain chin lift with patients mouth open.Use a protective resuscitation face shield if possible.Give 1 rescue breath. While maintaining backward head tilt and chin lift, you must ensure thechest rises as you blow and falls fully when you lift your mouth away.If this happens, you have given an effective rescue breath.Give another rescue breath (2 in total). If there are difficulties achieving effective rescue breaths, re-check:Head positioning (ensure backward head tilt and chin lift). The patients mouth for any obstructions.Adequate air seal and ventilation. If over breathing or airway is partially obstructed which causes distension of the stomach: Turn the patient into the recovery position and recheck the airway. This action will help expel the air from the abdomen.Do not apply pressure over the abdomen because this may cause regurgitation.(The same procedure applies to a baby.) Quickly turn the patient onto their back and continue resuscitation.
