Ear infection in a child or infant often leads to fever, distress, irritability and the child tends to tug at the affected ear.How to ManageMinor earache can be soothed by applying a warm water bottle or heat pad.A patient may self administer their own prescribed medication. For earache caused by aircraft descent, have the patient perform swallowing actions, try yawning or drinking water. The problem is normally temporary and will subside completely in a short time.A child with an earache should be seen by a doctor due to the risk of infection thatcould lead to hearing damage.Arrange for medical assistance in the event of:Serious ear injury.
